The booklet is an attempt towards broader representation of Ravidas’s life, his works, his role and contribution to the Bhakti movement, his spirituality and his contribution to the Indian Society. Although an untouchable and an illiterate, he had enormous spiritual power with miracles at his service. He was a prophet of Sahaj-bhakti, a philosophy of compassion, recollection of God’s name and social equality of mankind. He believed in dignity of physical labour. All evils flow from human lust, which makes one superstitious and obscurantist. When passions are bridled, love becomes the governing principle of life. No one is superior by virtue of birth, and truth does not demand observance of rituals. It generates pure hypocrisy. He wanted to emancipate Indian society from the obscurantist rule of Muslims that glorified dogmatism. He believed in freedom, both internal and external. This is, what he calls, pure liberation. He was the first to popularize the ideals of ‘Swarajya’ (self rule) and ‘Ramrajya’ (just rule). Service of humanity to him was true spiritual practice.
